Balnarring Musos' Night is an institution amongst locals, running at various venues throughout its 8 year life but always every second Wednesday (recycle bin night). It is run by an enthusiastic sub-committee of the Balnarring Village Common community group.Slide1Musosmusos 2

It is, essentially, an ‘open mic’ night providing an opportunity for anyone to take centre stage and demonstrate whatever talent, at any level, they possess. The patrons are always supportive and welcoming reflecting the true nature of the evening. Quality sound gear and some instruments are provided and there is usually a communal guitar (or three) available for use. Many prefer to bring their own gear.

The night is usually anchored by a quality musician who leads the evening by warming up the crowd with a few numbers. People who wish to perform place their name on the list and are called up when their turn arrives. Often others will join performers on stage to accompany them if required (drums, bass guitar, tambo, etc.) and the evening is usually finished with a half hour (or so) jam session – the highlight for many.

Balnarring Musos' Night is a non-profit organisation where any funds raised support the local community. Beneficiaries include the Foreshore Committee, who had improvements to the rotunda carried out; the National Youth Week performing arts event in April 2012; a music tuition scholarship at the Balnarring Primary School; the Mornington Fair; ‘The Spring Thing’  Balnarring youth arts and music project in November.

Balnarring Musos' Night committee hopes that development of the ‘village common’ will include an outdoor entertainment area to further provide a musical service to the Balnarring community.

Balnarring Musos' Night takes place in the Balnarring Hall (opposite the shopping square) every second Wednesday (‘recycling bin’ day in hte Balnarring area) starting at 8PM and finishing at 11PM. Tea and coffee is provided. A donation at the door upon entry is requested.
